It is not without reason that scientific celestial telescopes are located on islands or in sparsely populated regions. The constantly increasing light emissions from cities and metropolitan areas, also known as light smog or light pollution , make it extremely difficult to observe and photograph stars or other celestial objects. However, the unpleasant veil is also annoying on "normal" night shots and city panoramas. The new Rollei Astroklar night light filter is now available to DSLR and DSLM photographers to reduce the effects of light pollution . The artificial light sources that cause the greatest light pollution are sodium vapor lamps (light wavelength approx. 590 nm) and mercury vapor lamps (light wavelength 545 nm and 580 nm). Among other things, these wavelengths block our night light filters and thus enable shots of a starry sky and night shots without a yellow tinge - even in large cities and their environs.

Less light pollution, more detail and clarity

A special coating largely removes the yellow and orange light waves from the light , which are primarily responsible for the disturbing haze of light. Above all, not only do recordings of the night sky and the stars gain significantly in contrast and clarity, the advantages of this high-quality special rectangular filter, which is now available in both 150mm and 100mm widths , are also evident in nighttime city photography. In the case of architectural or long-term exposures in an urban environment, even filigree structures and contrasts in the subject are retained and no longer “tear out”. Due to the extensive filtering of the warmer light components, your recordings are generally a bit cooler, so always carry out a manual white balance and select a color temperature between +700 K and +1,500 K of the spectrum without using a filter to ensure the color authenticity of your pictures.

Best optical glass, double-sided nano-coating

So that you can also use your Rollei Astroklar filter for demanding projects and under adverse weather conditions, the high-quality optical glasses have been treated with a special nano-coating on both sides. This additional protective layer not only reliably prevents reflections from uncontrollable light sources, which are particularly annoying when shooting at night, but also has a strong water, oil and dirt-repellent effect. The cleaning of your Astroklar rectangular filter becomes child's play, if it is still necessary at all. The light transmission when using the Astroklar filter is reduced by a 2/3 stop or f-stop. In general, we recommend using a tripod and/or a remote release , not only when combining it with other filters such as gray filters , polarizing filters and gray graduated filters in the filter holder .
