The 90 mm full glass ball for photography with DSLMs and DSLRs (mirrorless cameras and single lens reflex cameras) , also known as a lens ball, is a streak-free glass ball of the highest quality, with no air pockets or bubbles . It reflects its surroundings as a mirror- inverted , sharp and crystal-clear 180-degree view in a sphere, which can be taken directly from the palm of your hand or positioned at a fixed point.

The clear and transparent photo glass ball is easy to use, but also meets the needs of professional photographers. With a weight of 945g , it may not be as light as a feather, but it still fits comfortably in any bag or backpack to take with you on photo tours through the countryside or when travelling. Whether it's landscape photography, city trips or architectural shots - with the 90 mm glass ball you can create uniquely surreal images from unique perspectives .

For safe protection and optimal cleaning before the shoot, the scope of delivery also includes :

  • A storage bag
  • A microfiber cloth

Tips for crystal ball photography:

  1. Always clean the ball of fingerprints before shooting - microfiber cloth included in delivery
  2. Fix carefully on smooth and sloping surfaces
  3. Use a maximum exposure time of 1/250 – 2/125 for freehand shots
  4. Ideal focal length between 24mm and 35mm
  5. Longer exposure times are also possible with tripods
  6. For the typical shallow depth of field of glass ball photography, work with an aperture of 2.8
  7. Ideal for extensive areas with few highlights (e.g. forest clearings, market squares, water with and without ships)
  8. When photographing with a tripod, keep a sufficient distance so that the tripod and photographer do not reflect themselves in the glass ball.

Production & quality control of the 90mm full glass ball

Photography with a glass ball benefits above all from the effect that it captures the surroundings as a mirror image as a 180-degree view in the smallest of spaces. Now you can use the camera + lens (ideal: 2.8 / focal length 24 mm - 35 mm) to focus on the motif in the glass sphere and work with a shallow depth of field, but still let the background flow artistically into the picture.

In order for all this to be possible, the glass must be of the highest quality and without inclusions . This is ensured by our special quality controls and the transparent manufacturing process , in which the balls are checked several times during production for material defects, inclusions and cracks.

The glass is first melted into a long rectangle. The high temperatures make the glass soft and easily malleable . Individual cuboids are then cut out of this glass rectangle. Due to the previous melting process, these cuboids are still easy to shape and are now placed in a hydraulic press and thus given their round shape. Now it's time to cool down to room temperature of approx. 20 degrees Celsius . In order to avoid imperfections such as surface irregularities and bubbles, the glass balls are cooled down very slowly and temporarily stored. After cooling , the raw material is first checked for cracks and inclusions . All solid glass spheres, which are of impeccable quality, now go to grinding and polishing until they have received their absolutely flawless and round shape . Then the next check for air pockets and other defects takes place. If a defect is noticed here, the crystal ball is sorted out. The final touches are now applied using a high-speed polishing machine . After a certain time, the balls are now completely transparent and have a perfect surface quality. Now comes the final quality control - until the perfect end result of each glass ball . This is the only way to ensure that the glass ball does not negatively affect the refraction of light later, or that inclusions and scratches do not appear as disturbing elements in your reflected motif.
